Porous and enamelled earthenware
Prize winner project for the ENSCI x Hermès partnership
Model not produced commercially
Composed of 2 concentric trays, Sillage is diffusing scent through the porous rings of its main tray. By switching the side which sits on the enamelled base holding the perfume, you can either diffuse the scent in the room, or lessen its potency while the porous rings soak up new perfume from the base.
I used the tournage en creux technique I learned during my time at the Manufacture de Sèvres to produce many clay mockups to adjust the design and the user experience of Sillage. Producing those models myself allowed me to iterate precisely and to stay close to the reality of a complex material like clay.
To enhance the story of craftsmanship around this object, I directed a short film showing my hands producing Sillage.
